Run the PRD Creator server via npx (recommended)
The easiest way to use the server is via npx which downloads and runs the latest published package without a permanent installation.

Set your AI provider API key as an environment variable. The server reads OPENAI_API_KEY, ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, and GEMINI_API_KEY. You can also use a .env file in the working directory. Without any key, the template-based generator is still available.

generate_prd returns 'AI provider unavailable' and falls back to template

The first run downloads the package from npm which can take 10-30 seconds depending on network speed. Subsequent runs use the cached package and start instantly. Alternatively, install globally with 'npm install -g prd-creator-mcp' for consistent fast startup.
