Prerequisites
- A Canny account with API access (Pro plan or higher recommended)
- Your Canny API key from Settings > API
- Your Canny subdomain (the part before .canny.io)
- Node.js 18+ installed
- At least one Canny board ID to use as the default
Install the Canny MCP package
Install the package globally via npm so it is available as a CLI command for the MCP server.

In your Canny dashboard go to Settings > API to copy your API key. To find a board ID, open a board, click Settings, and copy the ID from the URL or board settings page.
Add the server via Claude Code CLI
Register the Canny MCP server in your Claude Code user scope with the required environment variables. CANNY_TOOL_MODE controls which tools are active: 'readonly' enables 19 safe read-only tools, 'all' enables all 37 tools including write operations.
